Day 1 of the big "K"

Our morning started out super! Up, dressed, teeth brushed, breakfast, shoes, lunch packed, back pack on, pictures and video taken...we're off! After posing for a pic with my boy, the bus driver, "Smitty", was off....as were Avery and I. I threw her into the van with tears streaming down my face into the front seat and said, "hurry and buckle!". Half way down the road I am realizing that my baby is in the front seat and the kid I'm in "HOT PURSUIT" after has no seat belt at all...so I start laughing through the tears. It was a Crankshaft comic come to life. I even followed the bus down a dead end road, which I did not know at the time, and had to turn around. When he dropped Preston off in the afternoon, following what I will be calling "the longest 3 1/2 hrs of my entire life", he said to me that he "thought for a minute that he had a stalker this morning."

When we got to the school, there was enough time for me to park and race across dragging my daughter to the bus door. When their bus pulled up you could hear the reverberating sounds of campfire cadence songs. "I don't know, but I've been told..." Smitty was leading the group....a booming baritone, "all the kindergarteners in the back say OH YEAH!" A chorus of "OH YEAH'S" came out of the bus just before you saw the first of the chillens getting out. Totally crazy and soooo Preston. He was positively beaming upon arrival at school. He went in like a pro. Put his bag away, found his name, and began working on the paper that was waiting for him. He looked up and said, "bye Mom, I love you, and I've got my listening ears on." And that was that.

Now after we left is when my day gets a little fuzzy. We went to Lancaster to get product for some color I'm doing tomorrow, we had breakfast, and spent some time with Nana. I spoke to so many friends and family. It's all so exciting...so many changes..I feel like this morning was a week ago. I didn't finish a complete sentence all day until my school boy got home. I'm sorry if I missed any of your calls, I'm trying to account blow by blow so as to not forget anyone or anything.

Mike got home 5 minuted before the bus. So there we stood, Daddy, Mommy, Avery, and Dingo, video camera in hand to greet our beloved. He was grinning from ear to ear when he got off that bus. I was then accused in a very kind way of being a stalker....and how far is that from the truth??!! Preston proceeded to say that he was happy to ride the bus twice and he was starved. And that about wraps up what he will say about school.

Must find clever way to pump info........

He came straight into the house, took off all of his clothes except the unders, and curled up on the couch on a pillow. He was so tired he could hardly speak.......alarming, isn't it??? He perked up after the dinner had some time to kick in. He even went and took a warm bath all alone just to relax. He totally needed some down time...who is this child and what have you done with my son???!!

Overall, he had a great day. The evening slipped by so quickly....it was bed time before we knew it. The afternoon was so long.....Avery asked several times when Preston would be coming home. Sad for her. We danced and watched Cinderella II. Tomorrow the hellish part of my day will be taken up with some color. Yea! Keeping busy will be a must for a bit until we adjust.

Hey Mel, do you want to color you this Thursday? I'll double check my 16 calenders, but I think it's ok on this end.

Preston has decided to buy a tray tomorrow because they are having french toast and sausage. Why did I buy $30 in lunch box food??? Oh well, here's to hoping that he can carry his own plate as I have handed the little prince his plate since he was old enough to eat solids (which was ridiculously late in his little life because of my fears of choking). Maybe we should've let the little rugrats carry their own food at the buffet lines. Or at least we should have lunched at the MCL so that they'd know what to do.

I'm drained. I'm going to bed. Love you all.

Hooray for Him, Boo Hoo for Me

Tomorrow is the day that my sweet boy will take his first steps....
....his first steps onto a SCHOOL BUS!

Hooray for him, boo hoo for me.

Tomorrow he will step out into the world armed with a new Spidey shirt (against my better judgement, although thought we should get that one out of the way before the discipline chart starts next week). Also, a Spidey lunchbox filled with all the favorites, Spidey shoes, and the Spidey backpack.

Hooray for him, boo hoo for me.

Tomorrow he will for the first time be spending most of his waking hours with someone who does not love him....at least not yet.

Boo Hoo for me.

He is so excited and so ready.

Hooray for him.

Have a great day at school tomorrow, baby, mommy loves you.

the winds of change.....

.....are starting to blow like a son of a bitch around here! Holy shit! I've got two kids going into school! And we still need a pencil box. YIKES!! Who ever said these little ones would grow up and go off to school? If I didn't know my one self so well and my lack of organization skills and let's face it my love of "something better to do", I'd consider home schooling. Only because I hate this sick feeling in the pit of my stomach.

We've pretty much decided to let Preston ride the bus if the route isn't too long...like 20 min or less. We really live about 7 minutes from the school. Mike was dead set against the bus, but then after talking with Preston about the bus, and by this I mean asking him, "What do you think about riding a bus to school?", and of course his little eyes just sparkle and his reply is "AAAWWEESSOOOMMMMEEEEE". Have you ever known Mike to tell these children "no" to anything???? It's all good with me as long as it's not too long of a ride. That way in case of a broken down car he will still get there. The big question is...who watches them and makes sure they get into the building?? I will be following the bus the first day so I will be able to see him go into the building. Hell, I haven't ruled out following the bus every day all year at this point.

Tonight is the orientations for both kids, one at 4:30 and one at 6:30. We are planning to go out to dinner (imagine!) tonight after the festivities so that the kids can talk all about their repective schools. Last night Mike and I looked up Preston's teach on the school website. Then we had to look at all the rest just to compare. He was killing me with whole scenarios about each one. It was a riot.

Avery is so excited! Finally, it is her turn with Mrs. Huntsberger. I'm so anxious to see her again. I will be totally available to help in Avery's classroom this year. My plan is to help out in there once a week. Although in the first couple of weeks I want her to adjust to being there and learn the rules on her own. She is so ready. How hard it must be to be the second kid. Always seeing the bigger kid doing all the cool stuff first..and having to wait your turn. I am planning something special for her on the two days when Preston has school as she doesn't start until Weds. She is so going to be up my ass. At least her school will be right in the middle of his day so she won't be so lonely.

It will be me who is lonely. I am so sad over this, and at the same time thrilled for them. My biggest challenge will be trying to reign in the tears while I try to take amazing pictures of this event. I can't believe it's time to send them both out into the world.

Something to ponder....

Have you ever wondered what the story is behind the stray shoe you see along the side of the road? Lately, I've noticed quite a few lost shoes along the highway. I wonder if they blew out off of the foot that was hanging out the window? Maybe they just fell out of the back of a truck..... Maybe some little kid pitched it out the window....

Have any thoughts on this one???

Welcome to the Realm of Chaos

Last week was VBS.....Serengeti Trek.....I managed to piss off the cooridinator by the second night. And I made 200 no-bake cookies on Sunday afternoon and Monday morning. I was just offering up my music DVD of the VBS that I'd ordered online earlier this summer. I ended up teaching the kids the hand motions and dances that went with the music. But the DVD idea got squelched....for reasons I do not know....and no longer give a shit about...

My niece Hanna broke her ankle on the last day of VBS. Great. She's 7. On crutches....with a very bruised foot....but I'm happy to report that she is able to walk on it quite well without the aid of the crutches....must be a miracle....or the ankle wasn't really broken, but badly sprained.....that's what you get at what my husband's family has deemed "O'Bless Us" hospital in Athens. I'm happy to see her moving around although I'm still trying to get the screaming noise of very hurt girl out of my head.

Almost burned down the house twice in the past couple of weeks. Had an electrician here on Sunday rewiring our fuse box into the breaker box.....yea!....to the tune of about $700. Not so good right now...but what do you do? Cheaper than burning down the house.

Had Marcus and Adam here today and Katye came to help run interference. Kids had a ball. Swam all day. We got to lounge on a sheet in the shade and split a 2-liter of Coke and knit. Doesn't get much better than that. Hanna came here this evening at 7:30. I'll have her until Friday. And then again next week from Tuesday until Friday although she is only sleeping over one night. Should be ok.

Finally got a school supply list for Preston. They had one posted at Kroger. I found another list on the school's website tonight. Hooray. I hate this going to school nonsense. Who said that they were ever gonna be old enough to go to school??!! Crapola is what I say! He will be going all day every day from 9:30 to 4pm. We not only have to deal with kindergarten but also bus routes and lunches........YIKES!!!!!

Hoping to make it home to cut everyone's hair before school starts. What a nightmare. Where has the summer gone?
