Survivors!!!!

Tonight was our preschool orientation and meet the teacher night. Mike came home from work half sick with a big sinus headache. I almost puked in the shower from the anxiety I was feeling leading up to this evening. I had been prepping Preston about this day, and it had finally arrived. I made sure that he and Avery both took naps this afternoon to help with the "my-daddy-is-home-and-I'm-gonna-cry-all-evening-because-I'm-exhausted" thing.

Promptly at 6:10pm we were all dressed in our fancy- going- to- the- new -school -duds and were in the car and heading out. Mike and I were ready for a terrified child. We were prepared to grab the first trash can for the inevitable puke. Had a big ole wad of kleenex for the weeping boy child. We were prepared for all of those disasters and then some. What we were NOT prepared for was the "dissing" that we got. My boy walked up to his teacher and introduced himself. He was beaming! We sat through the little talk from the principal with these two beautiful angel babies who were behaving themselves like they REALLY DO KNOW GOOD MANNERS!! When the time came to see the classroom our family walked together to the room and then **BAMM** we were dissed. They both hit the door running and never looked back, heading in opposite directions to boot. Mike and I found ourselves in a corner all alone watching our babies growing up before our very eyes. They were big kids. Interacting with other kids, as well as adults, like they owned the place. Kind, sharing, waiting patiently for their turn.......WHO ARE THESE KIDS AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH MY HOOLIGANS????!!!! We were so proud and so heartsick all at the same time. It was a very strange feeling.

He did it. With no tears, no fussing, no complaining, no puking....nothing. He is ready, he is excited, he picked out his own name from the apples on the bulletin board!!! What is right with that??!!

We are survivors of the "parental dissing".
